Mum reveals how she makes homemade McMuffins for her husband’s 4.30am breakfast

An organised Australian home cook has shared how she replicates the signature McDonald’s McMuffin for her husband’s early morning breakfast.

Posting to the Mums Who Cook and Bake Facebook group, Queensland local Jodie said her husband starts work at 6am and wakes up at 4:30am – a time too early to eat breakfast.

‘So I decided to try making our own McMuffins!’ she wrote on Facebook, adding: ‘Nailed them!!!’

‘I’m going to ATTEMPT to make my own English Muffins tomorrow, wish me luck.’ 

The homemade meal would only take five minutes to prepare and are very easy to make when short on time.

While the McMuffin in already very easy to prepare, Jodie simplified the method further and cooked the eggs in the microwave.

‘Zap for just over one minute – keep watch so it doesn’t explode,’ she warned. 

She also makes multiple in advance to be wrapped, frozen, defrosted and eaten as needed.

Other amateur home cooks were left impressed with the breakfast idea and also shared some helpful cooking advice.

‘If you want to stop eggs exploding in the microwave prick the egg yolks with a fork before cooking,’ one person said, another added: ‘Or you can add spoonful of water.’

‘A family breaky favourite!! So simple,’ another said.

A third added: ‘I do this for my boys for easy school breaky. They’re so awesome.’ 

HOW TO MAKE A MCDONALD’S MCMUFFINS AT HOME  

INGREDIENTS:

  • 500g sausage mince
  • Bacon 
  • Cheese slices 
  • Eggs  
  • Salt and pepper 
  • English breakfast muffins 

METHOD:

Season the sausage mince with salt and pepper and use your hands to form into patty shapes, then pan fry until cooked through 

Cook the egg in a ramekin for only one minute, and watch to ensure it doesn’t explode 

Once cooked, add the patties, cheese, egg and bacon into the English breakfast muffin
