‘Veganducken’ or turducken? People slam vegan twist on traditional Christmas roast

A vegan take on the Christmas classic ‘turducken’ has been slammed online – with some people going as far as to say it ‘belongs on the compost heap’.

The vegetable-based meal sees home cooks stuff a zucchini and capsicum inside an eggplant which is inside a pumpkin.

Where the traditional meal consists of a chicken stuffed inside a duck, stuffed inside a chicken – and is also known as a ‘three bird roast’.

The vegetable roast received mixed reviews online – with many people slamming the idea.

‘I’d rather throw this in the compost heap,’ one man said – receiving a wave of support.

While others simply said ‘no thank you’ or went so far as to paste vomit emojis. 

Some questioned the legitimacy of the meal as ‘human food’.

‘Okay if you are a rabbit,’ one user wrote.

Others agreed it could be good – if served alongside meat.

WHAT IS TURDUCKEN? 

Turducken is a traditional Christmas roast in Canada and America.

It is known as ‘three bird roast’ elsewhere.

It is made by stuffing a deboned chicken inside a deboned duck inside a deboned turkey.

In the English variant the Turkey is replaced with a goose.

‘Would go yummy with a roast beef or chicken,’ one woman wrote.

‘All vegetable dishes work best with a side of meat,’ said another. 

Others loved the idea – some even saying they had made the dish and it was ‘a hit, even with the non-vegetarians’. 

The vegetarian meal also uses pine nuts, leeks and garlic minced together with pumpkin to create stuffing between the core vegetables.
