A devastated mother found out her husband was sexually assaulting their daughter when she caught him sniffing the 10-year-old’s underwear.
The father-of-four, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced Gosford District Court, NSW Central Coast, on Friday for assaulting his oldest child three times.
According to court documents, the man loved his daughter but developed a ‘sexual attraction’ to her shortly after her 10th birthday, the Daily Telegraph reported.
On one occasion, he went into her bedroom, lay down beside her and indecently assaulted her.

Not long after the first assault, the father assaulted the girl again as she lay half-asleep in bed.
A week later, the victim woke up to find her father indecently assaulting her a third time.
On the same night, the man’s wife saw him sniffing underwear in their ensuite.
The court heard the sex offender was startled and told the mother of his children that he was smelling her underwear.
‘She said “that’s f**king disgusting” and walked away.’
The woman soon discovered the underwear was not hers when she put on a load of washing, and realised they belonged to her 10-year-old.
She asked the girl the following day if ‘anyone ever touched you inappropriately’.
The girl replied: ‘Dad’.
The man said he ‘hates himself’ for what he did, claiming he wanted to get help for his paedophila before he was charged on June 18 last year, but had a ‘fear of failure’.
His family owned two child-related businesses which ‘put food on the table’ for 40 employees and their families.

‘I wanted to make sure I got the help I needed to ensure those offences didn’t happen again,’ he told the court.
He claimed he did not start the businesses, which have since been sold, to gain access to young girls.
‘It’s not your everyday medical condition you go and see your GP,’ he said.
After being charged, the court heard the man spent $20,000 seeing a psychologist, who diagnosed him with paedophelia.
He is also taking daily medication to reduce his testosterone levels.
The 10-year-old participated in an electronically recorded interview where she disclosed the three incidents.
He will be sentenced on March 10.
