Stately home in Buckinghamshire which features in The Crown is now available for private hire

Fans of The Crown can get a little taste of the on-screen grandeur by renting out one of the stunning stately homes that served as a filming location for the fourth series of the hit Netflix show.

Hedsor House, in Buckinghamshire, was used as a stand-in for Margaret Thatcher’s (Gillian Anderson) Downing Street and for some rooms of Balmoral Castle, where the Queen (Olivia Colman) and other members of the royal family spend time.

Although it is not a royal residence, the 13-bedroom country home does boast real-life royal connections and has hosted Kings, Queens and royal children from nearby Windsor Castle.

The property, which boasts sumptuous reception rooms, a cosy library, and incredible grounds, is available to hire from £2,000, for a minimum of five nights.

Steeped in history, the stunning stately home was originally designed by Sir William Chambers, the architect of Somerset House, with the help of King George III and Queen Charlotte. They were captivated by Hedsor’s picturesque position high above the River Thames and its proximity to London.

The house was once famously the home of Dowager Princess of Wales, mother of George III and the founder of Kew Gardens.

Following its fascinating 800 year history and decades as the seat of the Shephard Family, the beautiful Georgian house underwent an extensive renovation and restoration project in the mid to late 2000s.

In 2007 Hedsor opened its doors to the world for the first time in eight centuries when it served as Nicole Kidman’s character’s home in the film adaptation of The Golden Compass.

The home has established itself as a popular film venue, appearing in the likes of Downton Abbey and ciritically-acclaimed Quartet.
